I am really tired of people giving me job hunting advice. I mean, tell me something original people. Original and not completely stupid. “Have you looked on Monster?” “Have you looked at temp jobs?” “Have you thought about getting a crappy job until you find something?” “You should be a server at a restaurant.” “You should harass employers in person with your resume until they have no choice but to hire you.” Seriously??? I know you are all trying to help, but goddddd. Come on. Just let me search for a job in peace already. Stop giving me asinine advice like I haven’t heard it all before. I am sorry to rant like this but most, if not everyone, who tries to give me advice has NO fricken clue what it is like to look for a job right now, today. When was the last time you had to look for a job, huh? I am sure it wasn’t within the last year or two so you really have no idea. Things change. People change. Jobs change. It is harder now. There is more competition right now. At least in Ohio, it is not that easy to get just any job. Sure, there are plenty of manufacturing jobs (for men really). And sure there are soliciting jobs, or even collections jobs. But for these kind of jobs I would have to sell my soul in order to get by. I’d rather be unemployed than have to cold call some person only to have them yell at me and slam the phone in my ear. I refuse to settle for a job where I, know damn well, I will be miserable. I am not outgoing enough to be treated like crap on the phone by strangers nor am I strong enough emotionally. So, please for the life of god, stop suggesting I take anything. I know, I know, I need money. But I still have my pride people. If you would like to support me in my job search, that is great! Just be sure to keep the conversation short and productive. I don’t need to hear what everyone else has been telling me a million times. I am done with it. It is driving me crazy. And frankly I am tired of talking about it. Ask me how the search is going, or tell me about a job you heard that is open, and leave it at that. You have no idea how many times a week I have to say the same thing (about my job search) to everyone. It is tiresome. Support me by letting me talk about it and by just listening. That is all I need. Not cumbersome advice.

Thank you for letting me rant. I am sorry to have to say it, but it must be said. Thank you for the support though. I really do appreciate it. Just get off my back already.

I’m ready to run away … again

If I do not get a job here by March, I have decided to pack up and head to New York … again. Hopefully the second time will be better to me. I have no money (srsly, none!) but I will stay in Yonkers until I can save enough to get my own place near Manhattan, maybe even in Yonkers. If anyone would like to move in with me then, let me know. I am ready to leave this place. I don’t belong here and there are just no jobs available here. So, we’ll see what happens here.

Deadline: February 28, 2009.

difference

Let us love not only our sameness

but our unsameness.

In our difference is our strength.

Let us be not for ourselves alone

but also for that Other

who is our deepest Self.

Most of you know that my favorite author/poet is Sherman Alexie but I am currently reading a book from another Native American author, Leonard Peltier. Wow. I wish I could do something for the Native American community. They are still being treated as if they are not human beings. They get no respect. They live horribly. Why can’t America help them? It’s the least we can do for stealing their land and their freedom. Everyone should be aware of this. Do some research peeps.
Not cool America. So not cool.

This is one of the funniest things I have seen in a while. Hil-arious. Michael Cera is one funny kid. But I find it strange that, in my opinion, he looks younger now than when he was on “Arrested Development.” And I wanna see “Youth in Revolt.” It looks funny.

New pic of Oz and his great schnoz.

New pic of Oz and his great schnoz.

The job interview yesterday was unusual. It was a group interview where my competition was in the same room and we all had to answer questions in front of one another. I hate public speaking so of course I was nervous. But not nearly as nervous as this girl next to me. So was shaking really bad. Poor girl. If I don’t get it, I hope she does. But we’ll see if I get a call back. I liked the answers that I gave but who knows. At least I now know my competition for the jobs out there.

Well, I have another job interview on Tuesday. We’ll see what happens. The job sounds interesting: A Production Assistant for a design studio who creates exhibits and displays in museums and entertainment venues. There will be traveling involved and I love to be around creative people, so this might be cool. Sure, it’s not in my field of publishing, but who the hell cares at this point. I just need a job that pays decent and I enjoy going to every day. Is that too much to ask?

My letter to Zach Braff

Good luck with The Mermaid Oyster Bar and good luck with Danny Abrams. I cannot believe you are in business with him. After over hearing many phone conversations of Danny’s, I never once believed that you would actually go through with being an investor. Seriously, the Mermaid’s biz does well, so you shouldn’t regret it, but Abrams is scatterbrained. Yeah, good luck with that.

Your adoring fan always,

NMB
